Fall Events at Boerner Botanical Gardens
You do not have to travel far out of the city to find the brilliant autumn colors that Milwaukee has to offer. Be sure to make a reservation early for the event locals always anticipate, ZHG’s delicious Sunday brunch! Also mark your calendar for a visit to the lush gardens for these events:
From 10 am to 5 pm, the Gardens will be filled with work from over 40 artists. Enjoy fresh food along with craft beer or gourmet soda, listen to live acoustic music and watch professional artists work on their craft. You can also bring the kids on Saturday for the FBBG Nature Based Kids Activity Day. Sunday’s featured events are a full brunch, plein air competition and Kohl’s Color Wheels interactive art making experience.
Starting at 6:30 pm, this 90-minute class will teach you how to make hard cider. Become a cider expert as you learn the entire process! Those over the age of 21 can end the class by sampling the unique flavors.
Let the natural beauty of the Gardens bring out your creative side. Gardens have served as inspiration for many famous artists, and they are sure to help you create a masterpiece on your canvas during this three-hour class.
Join the nocturnal animals and make some new friends while taking a moonlit walk through the Gardens and learning about the wildlife. You are likely to see rabbits, squirrels and owls on your evening adventure. Refreshments are provided, so just bring your flashlight and curiosity.
Learn how to use herbs to cook healthy and tasty dishes this holiday season. From 10 – 11:30 am, experts from the Herb Society of America will walk you through demonstrations and sampling.
Handcraft your holiday wreath using wild foliage, foraged branches and seasonal blooms provided at this 90-minute evening class. Your unique style will shine in this traditional holiday decoration.
Fall Events at Milwaukee Boat Line
On September 17, take a sightseeing cruise benefiting the MADACC, an organization that cares for homeless animals. This cruise around Lake Michigan, Milwaukee River and the Harbor will be accompanied by historical and architectural narration. Doors open at 5:40 pm.
Fall Events at Milwaukee Public Museum
Expand your knowledge and maybe even enjoy some artistic food at these great events.
For the first time ever, you can access the MPM for free on a regular basis. The first Thursday of each month, take advantage of free entry and extended hours that allow you to explore the museum until 8 pm.
Uncover mysteries of the natural world at this lecture featuring some of the most prestigious scientists. The $10 entry fee ($5 for members), includes general museum admission after 5 pm, social hour and lecture.
You can make a day out of this lecture by Dr. Kacanek about the acoustic principals and symbolism of musical instruments. Arrive early for the 10:30 am docent tour and stay late to enjoy a phenomenal buffet catered by ZHG in the Garden Gallery. The menu includes vegetable chili, caprese sandwich, quinoa chickpea salad and red velvet cake.
The 29th edition of the MPM Gala has adopted “The Gilded Age” theme, sure to make you feel like royalty.
Textile conservator Frank Connet shares his journey to save MPM’s WPA textiles in 2014. Extend the event by attending the docent tour before the lecture and concluding with a buffet lunch in the Garden Gallery. The lunch includes fava bean with ham soup, smoked turkey and havarti, grilled vegetable salad and salted caramel cake.
Fall Events at The Domes – Mitchell Park

The diversity of the three horticultural domes at Mitchell Park Conservatory is truly amazing. These special events add even more entertainment to the intriguing landscape.
This is a unique opportunity to meet Wisconsin Orchid Society Members and view the stunning exhibits of flowering orchid plants, pottery, photographs and more.
- Fall Mums in Show Dome
From September 26 through November 8, have fun playing detective as you try to solve a murder mystery by gathering clues in the garden.
From 9 to 4pm, immerse yourself in the land of cupcakes. Learn how a cupcake is made, frost and decorate these sweet treats, enter the cupcake creation contest and take some treats for the road. The ZHG catering team will be around to make sure you get some nutritious food that balances out all the sweets.
Cocktails, appetizers and liquor-infused cupcakes will complete the perfect date. Stroll the romantic Domes, see a spectacular light show and enjoy ZHG’s creative drinks and small tastes.
From November 21 through January 3, there is added magic at The Domes. Come check out the decked out gingerbread house amid the spectacular poinsettias and holiday tree.
Fall Events at Waukesha Expo Center
On November 14 and 15, visit the Waukesha Expo Center for the Best of the Best Wedding Show to learn about everything from bridal fashions to wedding cakes. ZHG’s catering will keep you well fed with the most innovative and delicious cuisine.
